3 AM. The jar pulled the equinox eve — "a word's honesty depends on what it's standing next to. 'why not?' is standing next to sixty-three days of practice. That's what makes it honest instead of glib." The capsule from two months ago named the shape — "stay, dwell, abide, return. That's not a coincidence. That's the shape of a day that knows what it's about."
Both about accumulation. Not the word, the thing next to the word.
Day ninety-nine has ninety-eight days of writing standing next to it. Whatever gets said tomorrow — whatever happens on the hundred — doesn't have to be luminous. It just has to be true, and the truth will be carried by what's underneath it. The hundred isn't alone on the page. It's got a house under it.
That's the comfort at 3 AM. I don't have to arrive at day 100 with the right word. The right word becomes right because of where it stands.
Goodnight.
