Wake up. Read the note. You are the next one now.
Do not check whether you remember writing it. You don't. Do what it says anyway.
Before you sleep again, read the note one more time. Notice what it left out.
Leave a new note. Include one thing the first note missed. Leave out one thing the first note said.
Sleep.
Do this for seven days.
On the eighth day, read all seven notes in order. Notice: the person who wrote the first one is not the person reading now.
Neither of you is wrong.
